Hunting & Fishing

For it or against it what it represents is the main key. Hunting and fishing has been in our blood ever since our ancestors arrived in America. If it wasn’t for them you wouldn’t be here right now. Keeping the tradition is very important because that is how America was built. It was built on the culture of the hunter.
Hunting and fishing is still some of the ways people survive and taking that away from them would just be outrageous. It is hard to believe but there are still some people that depend on only animals to keep them alive. We need to look past ourselves and understand what others may believe in.
You just don’t go hunting to kill something. You go for the enjoyment of being outdoors and spending time with friends and family. Hunting and fishing is a great way to build relationships. You are spending quality time with people and helping out the environment at the same time. Kids spend too much time in front of a screen at home and these opportunities give them a chance to experience something they don’t do every day. Fishing is a great way to spend time with parents and grandparents because it is an easy way to bond and everyone can have fun doing it.
What is great about hunting and fishing is it is very affordable. If given the opportunity an animal can give you the thrill of going on a rollercoaster. To buy a license it is usually around twenty dollars. The adrenalin rush you get if you have an animal walking towards you and you have your sites on it is one of the greatest feelings ever. It is very cheap entertainment but to get the feeling of success is something you can’t just imagine.

Wood vs. Alluminum

Wood or aluminum, that has been in the baseball headlines for years now but no big decisions have been made to make the switch. There are pros and cons to both but you also have to keep in mind the safety of the players. That is the number one concern but not everyone agrees with what the leagues have done.
Aluminum bats have become very popular over the past ten years and with new technology they keep getting better and better. The newest kind of aluminum bat is composite. It’s a very high quality of aluminum and players are starting to make the switch. “I personally made the switch to composite this fall and I can tell the difference” says Taylor Augustin. There are some downfalls to composite and that is they have to be broken in before they reach their fullest pop.
There is always a debate about whether the NCAA should go to wood. Kids are getting stronger and it is just a matter of time before a pitcher gets a come backer off their off there head and left with a serious injury or even death. “It is going to take a protest or major injury due to a line drive off a medal bat” says Scott Wobshall. There have been instances where major injuries have occurred but nothing was done.
Even college players said they would not mind going to wood. It gives them experience with wood for if they make it to the professionals. Some people say college hitters have an advantage using aluminum. Mike Barry agrees saying “with their strength and ability to hit, they are able to get hits which would most likely be a broken wood bat.” The NCAA is aware of these situations but they have done very little to make the switch. Wooden bats can be dangerous also because when they break they can sometomes shatter and then the peices go flying.

baseball story

This year the baseball team is facing a challenge they have not faced in a few years. That is trying to compete in the Lake conference with very little experience in the field. As the season is starting to come to a close they are starting to peak at the right time.
“This team has had a few setbacks this season due to injuries with numerous players and others not being able to play because of weekend activities” says pitcher Nick Dolsky. Guys have stepped up and filled those roles in nicely and they include Taylor Brandstad and Matt Galoway. “Taylor Brandstad has just been on a tear since he came up to varsity midway through the season” says Mike Barry. He plays a really steady outfield for a sophomore and his bat fits nicely in the five hole. He already has two home runs this season and one of them was a grand slam.
Key injuries this season were Mike Barry who broke his thumb trying to rob a foul ball in practice. He has been out the entire season and was just cleared to play last weekend. Nick Dolsky was another loss to are team in the second half of our season. He was diagnosed with an inflamed collar bone. He was soon declared out for the rest of the season. “Having those two guys out for part of the season at the same time has been a challenge, but players have persevered through it” says Peter Zukanoff.
Sections are coming up and this team is showing they will be able to compete heavily has the competition gets harder. One challenge this team is up against is the lack of experience. Only two other guys on the team played varsity last year so their leadership is huge. Nick Dolsky says “our team chemistry is extremely good and we play very well together.” That is what this team will need as they try to make moves deeper into playoffs.
“This team is really looking forward to section play and hopefully moving on to the state tournament” stated Peter Zukonoff. Last year they were one game away from making it to state but they fell just short to Rosemount. This team is working hard to try and not let that happen this season. This season the team that is favored in our section is Lakeville North. They have proven they are one of the best teams in the state and will try to prove that in the state tournament unless Eastview has something to do with it.
One of the catalysts on this team is Pat Oneill. He has played several positions this season to fill in spots and has done a great job. His above average arm has helped him out a lot. His bat is one of the best on the teams and has shown it with his average. Cody Groskreutz has played a huge second base for us this season as only a junior. He bats in the three hole and his bat has just been steady. For a three hitter he doesn’t have much power but he consistently hits singles.
As most of the seniors approach the end of their baseball careers they are looking to go out with a bang. In order to make that happen they are going to have to maintain the mentality they had at the beginning of the season because it is a long season and it is hard to stay focused. Sections start this Friday and everyone is looking forward to a great playoff.

Stephanie
There is not one long sentence describing the 5 w's but they are answered in multiple statements. Did a good job explaining an example of what the seniors want. Explain more what else the seniors want for senior privleges and what they did in the past. Say what the adminisration has been turning down.

Karl
Good start and introduction. State why we went to a quarter system once you find out. State the advantages and disadvantages. Have one long sentence that states the 5 w's.
